In southwest Wisconsin, the Black Hawk Bridge connecting Iowa and Crawford County is closing as construction begins on its replacement. Erica Ayisi reports from the Iowa-Wisconsin border, where commuters, travelers and business owners are bracing for a 45-minute detour to the nearest bridge crossing the Mississippi River.
To discuss the safety of other crossings statewide, Josh Dietsche, director of the Wisconsin Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Structures, joins Here & Now. Nearly 1,000 bridges in the state are currently listed as “structurally deficient,” according to the National Bridge Inventory.
In part three of the Rx Uncovered series, assistant news director Marisa Wojcik looks at how different industry practices are putting pharmacies – big and small – out of business and restricting patients’ access to local pharmacy care. She also examines a bill in the state Legislature that aims to address some of these challenges.
U.S. Rep. Bryan Steil joins Here & Now to discuss why the House session was cut short and to weigh in on polling around the reconciliation bill. He will also share his views on how the bill could affect Medicaid, the Affordable Care Act and FoodShare, as well as implications of the recently passed rescission packages.
