Keeper of the Light | Wisconsin Magazine

In 1987, newspaper reporter Anna Marie Lux traded modern conveniences for life as a lighthouse keeper on Lake Superior's remote Outer Island. This vintage Wisconsin Magazine story captures her solitary summer as a National Park Service volunteer in the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore.

P.S. Want more lighthouses? Enjoy the Wisconsin Lighthouses webpage, where you can watch the full Wisconsin Lighthouses documentary, explore video extras and take a virtual tour of Cana Island Lighthouse in Door County. Then, take a virtual field trip to Pottawatomie Lighthouse on Rock Island State Park in Door County.
